Printed Calendars Are Ideal For Marketing Planning and Brand Awareness

With the likes of Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, and Outlook being used by millions of people, especially in the business world, one may think that designing, using and giving branded printed calendars is a lost art. Not so.

According to NPD Group, a leading consumer research firm, “sales of printed appointment books and planners grew 10 percent from 2014-15 to 2015-16, with Americans spending a total of $342.7 million. Likewise, purchases of decorative and branded calendars increased by 8 percent, with more than 65 million dollars spent” (The New York Times). Personalization was one of the top reasons for this increase.

In addition, Pearson Prentice Hall reports that 65 percent of the population are visual learners. This holds true for employees and customers as well. Sometimes, for many of us, it’s easier to be able to see something rather than just hear about it – or just view it on a laptop or mobile screen. 

Among other formats, there are printed appointment calendars, desk calendars, wall calendars, and large planning calendars.

Marketing directors often use printed calendars:

  1. To plan out the marketing activities for the year, including their company’s content calendar and trade show plans
  2. To brainstorm collaborative projects with strategic partners
  3. To design a printed calendar of the various events their company is planning and sending it to their customers and clients, especially for children and for older customers who may not use a digital calendar.
  4. To feature a different product on each month, or a different artist or musician.

With so much of the average American employee’s work being done glued to a screen, taking a break and planning with a printed calendar is often more effective. A calendar can serve as a visual aid that facilitates discussion among marketing team members. And often, this type of real time planning is necessary before transferring the various tasks, events or action items into an integrated project management software, like Trello, Asana, Slack, Basecamp, Teamwork, and others.

For some professionals, like real estate agents, medical professionals, car repair shops and other service businesses, sales of promotional calendars keep growing. Calendars, whatever their format, can keep your company’s name and contact information top-of-mind the whole year long. Printed calendars build brand awareness and encourage repeat business.

Last but not least, consider creating a printed calendar that’s a work of art – something that others will want to hang in the office or at home – simply because it’s beautiful.
